Jagiellonian University of Krakow wins in Perspektywy University Ranking 2012

(Warsaw, 15 May 2012) Perspektywy Education Foundation announced the winners of the Perspektywy University Ranking 2012. Jagiellonian University of Krakow, after two years regained the leading position. University of Warsaw was second by a very narrow margin; Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan took the third place. The Kozminski University was first among Polish private higher education institutions.

Overall, in the Perspektywy University Ranking 2012 as many as 33 criteria were used, grouped into six categories: prestige - with the weight of 25%, academic potential – 15%, academic effectiveness – 30%, studying environment – 10%, internationalization – 15%, and innovation – 5% . To assure quality and transparency, the ranking process has been supervised by the Board chaired by the President of the Polish Academy of Science and composed of former rectors and outstanding public figures.

The Perspektywy Ranking consists, in fact, of several rankings: the main and the most important is the ranking of academic institutions (universities), but there are as well: ranking of private institutions on master level, ranking of private institutions on bachelor (engineer) level, and ranking of state vocational institutions. In total the 2012 ranking evaluated 256 higher education institutions in Poland. The ranking also includes a field ranking covering 15 most popular fields of study such as humanities, social studies, natural science, psychology, medicine, law, engineering and IT.

The results of the Perspektywy University Ranking 2012 were announced in Warsaw in the presence of highest officials of the Ministery of Science and Higher Education, the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences and members of the Polish Parliament. The 13th edition of Perspektywy University Ranking has been published by “Perspektywy” monthly and a leading Polish daily newspaper “Rzeczpospolita”.
